The new Volkswagen Taos is a new addition to the VW SUV lineup in Mandeville. It is slated to enter the market starting with the 2022 model. But that has not slowed down speculation and reservations. Only recently announced, the Taos will fall just under the Tiguan, further boosting Volkswagen's presence in the compact SUV market.

Although it is a new model, the Volkswagen Taos bears VW's iconic exterior design. Furthermore, the Taos offers its buyers in Kenner the same level of technology, style, and drivability that is characteristic of all Volkswagen models.

Exterior

The Volkswagen Taos features a bold and exciting exterior styling. It embodies the classy and luxurious design that is so favored by VW. The front grille bears the iconic VW logo and bright LED headlights. Daytime running LED headlights and the automatic HighBeam-adjust add to the safety of the vehicle almost as much as they add to the exterior look. The Taos measures 175.8-inches long. This length translates to added interior space for the passengers. It has a wheelbase of 105.9-inches, a height of 64.4-inches, and a width of 72.5-inches. Another noticeable feature is the 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Buyers will get the option to upgrade to either 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels.

Though one may notice a few similarities with the Tiguan and the ID.4, the Taos is likely to appeal to more drivers in Metairie thanks to its compact size, sporty response, and stylish design.

Performance

Like its cousin, the VW Jetta sedan, the Taos will come powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Buyers will have the option to choose from two powertrain options. These are a front-wheel-drive setup paired with eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive powertrain that features a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo

The Volkswagen Taos features a modern cockpit-style with features that surpass the market standard. As standard, the Taos comes with the VW digital instrument cluster. It also features an available heated leatherette steering wheel. It also comes standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen or an optional eight-inch infotainment touchscreen with voice control. Additionally, drivers can opt for an eight-speaker BeatsAudio system, wireless smartphone charging, Sirius XM satellite radio, and a navigation system. The standard upholstery is two-tone, high-quality cloth, but leatherette and leather upholstery are available. Higher trims will feature a 10-color ambient lighting system.

The interior space is more than adequate. The Taos offers a passenger space that measures a total of 99.5 cubic-feet. It also features a total cargo space of 66.3 cubic-feet with the second-row seats folded. With the seats up, the cargo space is 28.1 cubic feet. The legroom for the front and rear passengers comes in at 40.1-inches and 37.9-inches, respectively.

Safety

The Volkswagen Taos will feature the IQ.DRIVE suite of safety and driver assistance features. This system features a forward-collision warning system, autonomous front braking, an active blind-spot monitoring system, a lane-keeping system, and adaptive cruise control. Other safety features include a stop-and-go system, a high beam control system, an adaptive front lighting system, an emergency assist, and an available park distance control system.
